New technology saved millions for Borlänge Energy

Floods have long been a problem in Borlänge. The stormwater network therefore needed expanding, but preconditions were problematic. With conventional trenching, 10,000 truckloads of soil material would have to cross the city center. Preliminary calculations gave indications of costs at 20-30 million SEK, and there was little time… 

Johan Lundberg AB were brought onboard, and we recommended Microtunneling – uncommon in Sweden, but both geotechnical challenges and the need for transport were eliminated. Final costs for the project ended at 11 million SEK – precisely as stated in the tender, no additional costs. Today, more network owners show interest in this technology, and more projects are underway.
