Thinking outside the box sometimes truly pays off
When the energy company Fortum planned to install a high-voltage powerline under highway E4 in Stockholm, the idea was to use trenchless technology on six sections of the full distance. Johan Lundberg AB was asked to conduct a pre-study for the project. We could instantly see that drilling could be replaces with trenching in one of the sections. All the was needed was a simple move od existing pipelines for district heating. The adjustment decreased budgeted costs with 5 million SEK.
Through the proceeding project, we could shorten the total distance, which in itself saved 1.2 million SEK. We also pointed out potential areas of risk and ensured that a geotechnical investigation was done. By acknowledging risks, network owners could consider potential problems in financial planning.
